Economist Ricardo Caballero and Former Minister Mariana Aylwin Speak at Grupo Security Economic Seminar
The eleventh version of this event was entitled "What kind of society do we want?" where the leading Chilean economist Mr. Ricardo Caballero analyzed the global economy, and the former Education Minister Ms. Mariana Aylwin discussed the situation in Chile.
Grupo Security held its Economic Seminar this morning, entitled "What kind of society do we want?" The speakers were the leading Chilean economist and director of the World Economic Laboratory at MIT, Mr. Ricardo Caballero, and the former Education Minister, Ms. Mariana Aylwin. The meeting was held at Santiago's W Hotel and brought together close to 1,000 attendees.
The leading Chilean economist Mr. Ricardo Caballero described his analysis of the global economy, with his specialized perspective on the variables that are fundamental to understanding the changes that the largest international economies are currently undergoing.
Mr. Caballero has a degree in business administration from Universidad Católica and a doctorate in Economics from MIT, where he has been on the faculty since 1992. He has written various research papers on macroeconomics, finance and international economics. He has also lectured at Colombia University and has worked as a consultant for the IMF, World Bank, Federal Reserve and the European Central Bank, among other institutions.
The former Education Minister, Ms. Mariana Aylwin, discussed and analyzed the situation in Chile, the challenges looming this year and over the next few years, and the structural reforms currently being discussed in Chile, such as higher education.
Ms. Aylwin is currently Chairman of Fundación Oportunidad; Director of Corporación Educacional Aprender; a councilperson for the Metropolitan Region; on the board of the digital newspaper "El Dinamo"; and writes a column for the newspaper "La Segunda".
Her political career spans a Member of Parliament from 1994 to 1998 and Education Minister in the government of Ricardo Lagos Escobar (2000-2003). Furthermore, she has written various articles and publications, including "Chile in the Twentieth Century" and "Spain's Progress Towards Democracy", among others.
